All suffering is an invitation to deeper love. That tiredness, that hunger. That mean word someone speaks to you. That feeling of loneliness, that exclusion. here are opportunities to become alter Christus, another presence of Christ in the world, by bearing suffering in love. By transforming suffering through the triumph of the Cross.
Mother Teresa would say that suffering is the kiss of Christ. This is not a sadistic glorification of pain for its own sake, but a realization that in pain and suffering we are given a privileged opportunity to love and be loved by Christ.
"It is an opportunity to share in the passion of Christ." And she taught us how: to give whatever He takes and take whatever He gives with a big smile.
